Best new development in the global of Beauty:
The playful DGAF mindset that’s everywhere right now—a shift in our tradition from the concept of makeup as a manner to match in (cover up that flaw! Make the one’s cheekbones higher!) to makeup as a manner to face out (throw on glitter! Have amusing with coloration!). My favorite example du jour is the ombré lip, above, invented through makeup goddess Pat McGrath (you use lipstick plus matching glitter, and no, it isn’t for consuming spaghetti. Most unexpected location to collect Beauty ideas:
The Olympics. I used to suppose it became just abnormal for athletes to wear makeup. And, unusually, it appears implicitly required in a few sports, like gymnastics and ice skating—could your uneven bar routine or triple Lutz be any less magnificent without a smoky eye? However, Rio made me happy because the makeup seemed less like five-hour pancake-foundation sessions and more fun. See Simone Biles (beneath, #2) and smile. Just study that crimson, white, and blue liner! (And that brilliant gold hardware around her neck of the path.)
